FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can i do rifle siting in at your Club grounds?
No, our facilities are only resource consented to allow shotguns being discharged within our grounds.
Can I just turn up and have a go as a one off because it looks like fun?
No. As a club we do not offer causal attendance without membership, as you would if attending a business based facility. But yes, it is fun!!!
Do i need to be a member to shoot at your club?
Yes, unless you are wishing us to host a private event for you - see here. If you are already a member of any NZCTA affiliated Club you may attend any club run event.
How do i start Clay Target Shooting?
Complete the Contact Us form at the bottom of this page. The Club secretary will then be in touch with you regarding you visiting the club/shooting twice at the club before confirming you wish to become a member (try before you buy) - dates of shoots can be seen here. If you do not have a fire arms licence, you will either: 1- need to have a friend/family member who can attend the Club with you as the fire arm would be their responsibility, purchase ammunition and transport that fire arm, or 2 - sit your fire arms licence exam as soon as practicably possible to do everything solo. If you do not own a shotgun yet, you will need to purchase a shotgun as soon as practicably possible as borrowing a shotgun is only possible for a very short time frame. When purchasing a shotgun the store sales person can help you purchase the gun the fits and feels comfortable for you. When you attend the Club you will be introduced to other shooters and coaches who will assist and supervise you until you are confident with gun handling. Our club members are all more than happy to offer support, advice and help with all aspects of shooting. When you become a Club member you will receive information about the club, safety procedures and general information on clay target shooting. We are a New Zealand Clay Target Assn (NZCTA) affiliated member, therefore you will need to become a member of both the NZCTA and our club, but there are different membership tiers to suit everyone.
What is the age limit of clay target shooting?
There is not so much of an age limit, more of an ability limit. If you are unable to lift, hold and lower a shotgun - being in complete control of the firearm during the firing process - then you are not yet ready for shooting. Upper body strength and endurance are required as a standard round of any event is 25 targets.
Do you sell ammunition?
Yes, this service is available to club members or competitors attending events at our club. Your fire arms licence will be required at The time of purchase and details recorded along with purchasing details on a Fire Arms Sales Register.
Why is Sporting not offered as a shooting discipline any longer?
This also relates back  to our Resource Consent - our facilities are only resource consented to allow us to discharge shotguns from the firing mounds currently in place (the concrete stations and an area around them), this also dictates where our shot fall area is therefore contained.
